The distance to a digital future
UNICEF reported that around 90% of adolescent girls and young women aged 15–24 in low-income countries do not use the internet. This is a 2023 finding for that population, not a figure for all girls worldwide.

In a randomised study of 150 incoming women engineering students at one US university, first-year retention was 100% with a woman peer mentor and 89% without a mentor. This is a specific study result, not a universal success rate. A 2022 follow-up found that the difference in engineering retention was no longer significant at graduation, although other benefits persisted.

Among women with higher-ranked leadership placements in a study of one graduate management programme, 77% had strong ties to two or three other women. The full sample included 728 graduates, of whom 186 were women, from the 2006 and 2007 classes. This is an association in adult graduates, not a measured effect on girls or a promised benefit of membership.
